Now, it\u2019s time to dig deeper into one of the biggest barriers: waste.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 30%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<div style=\"height:51px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:53px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of you are probably familiar with the term \u201cwaste\u201d in production. These are the activities that occur during a project but do not add value. They can range from walking, searching for information, correcting defects, or even redoing work. In manufacturing, tremendous progress has been made to eliminate waste, driving efficiency gains up to eight times higher than in construction. How? To put this into perspective: in a standard 10-hour workday, almost 6 hours are spent on activities that don\u2019t contribute to the final product.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These activities include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Searching for information due to unclear specifications.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Time wasted fixing errors in drawings or waiting for answers.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Frequent mobilization and demobilization, caused by having to move between different areas instead of completing work in one spot.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Misalignment between different trades working on site, causing delays and confusion.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Slow problem solving, leaving unfinished tasks that need to be revisited later.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, construction teams are often forced to spend valuable time on tasks that don\u2019t directly contribute to the build, severely affecting overall productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:51px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:53px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 24%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><strong>What Can Be Done?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s crucial to understand that the value added by each worker is generally fixed\u2014there&#8217;s only so much a person can do in a day. Therefore, increasing efficiency isn\u2019t about asking workers to move or install things faster. Instead, it\u2019s about removing waste.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy eliminating waste, we can free up time and redirect that effort into value-adding activities such as installing more units, pulling more meters, or painting more square meters. This transformation is key to boosting productivity,\u201d says RNDV Chief Project Officer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:33px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visualizing the Impact of Waste Removal<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below, we offer a visual representation that highlights just how impactful eliminating waste can be. From these observations, we\u2019ve confirmed that removing waste\u2014whether it&#8217;s unnecessary steps, delays, or miscommunication\u2014dramatically speeds up project completion,\u201d Giedrius Gr\u0117bli\u016bnas shares his insights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, and this is important: such improvements only happen when all parties involved in the project collaborate closely. Solving issues upfront, aligning work across trades, and keeping the site conditions optimal are critical to making sure every worker can perform their job without unnecessary interruptions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:33px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction industry has long lagged behind in productivity gains compared to manufacturing, but it doesn\u2019t have to remain this way.
